Springtime spruce-up for Broom Farm

Residents are once again invited to bag up litter as part of a community clean-up at Broom Farm, Windsor, on Friday 4 March.

Volunteers are urged to join Royal Borough community wardens, the Army Welfare Service, borough streetcare officers, police officers, police community support officers, fire service officers and ward councillors for the start of the clean-up at 1pm at the community centre annex in Kenneally Road.

Cllr Colin Rayner, Cabinet Member for Highways and Streetcare, said: "With spring just around the corner, this really is a great time for a community clean-up. I am delighted so many organisations have joined forces to clean up Broom Farm.

"I am particularly pleased to be able to work with the local Army community. I helped out with the last clean-up, we had a great turnout with many residents giving time to help improve their area. I am sure this year will be bigger and better!

"The council has a zero tolerance approach to litter and anti-social behaviour. Days such as this are great - but the effort must be sustained throughout the year. Community wardens work with their local community all year round to instill pride in the area and I am pleased that once again they have taken the initiative and organised a clean-up. We hope that by having a cleaner community this will help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour."

Community warden Stuart Hookway is the driving force behind the clean-up. He said: "Having served in the Household Cavalry, I am very keen to work with the local Army community. Broom Farm is within my patrol area and it seemed completely natural to organise this latest clean-up.

"I think we'll be busy on the day so we need lots of volunteers to help out. Please come along and support us - it should be fun and rewarding."
