Community Participation
Participating in your local community is essential to addressing issues in the long term. If you would like to get more involved within your area here are some suggestions:
- Set up a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme if there isn't one.
- Volunteer some of your time to a project or charity in your area.
- Go along to councillors' surgeries and tell them about the problems in your area.
- Share information with your neighbours if you hear of a problem in your area.
- Make an informal agreement to keep an eye on each other's homes and vehicles and report any problems to the police.
- Pass information to the police and/or the local authority about crime problems or problem individuals, you could use an incident diary for this.
- Arrange for a crime reduction advisor to visit you and your family/neighbours to make sure you are as safe as possible. This is a free service provided by Thames Valley Police.
For more information on crime reduction advice, please contact the crime reduction advisor on 0845 8 505 505
