FRANK talking supports young people and families (17.10.11)

The Royal Borough's drug and alcohol action team (DAAT) has welcomed this week's re-launch of the national drugs helpline known as FRANK.

The DAAT - together with health and social care organisation Turning Point's T2 Maidenhead service - provide a wide range of services for young people and their families. This ranges from advice and information for themselves, friends or family members to working directly with people with substance misuse issues.

FRANK is available on www.talktofrank.com or by calling 0800 77 66 00.

Di Wright, DAAT Manager and Commissioner, said: "FRANK is an excellent resource and complements the work the DAAT and Turning Point do, especially with young people.

"In the Royal Borough we have produced a number of leaflets and booklets to provide information for parents and families, including the Families' Guide. I would encourage parents to contact the DAAT to get a copy."

Theresa Allen, Young People's Project Worker at Turning Point's T2, said:
"It's good to hear that FRANK is re-launching its national helpline. Through my work, I see young people every day who have begun experimenting with the wide range of substances available.

"The helpline resource will help young people to make safe and sensible choices, as well as point those who need further support in the direction of providers such as Turning Point."

To get a free copy of the Families' Guide call the DAAT on 01628 796362 or email daat@rbwm.gov.uk

T2 can be contacted on 01628 683260.
