Cleaning for Victory! (2.5.12)
Sunninghill residents are invited to bag up litter and clear vegetation as part of a community clean-up at Victory Field, Sunninghill, on Wednesday 16 May.
Volunteers are invited to join Royal Borough community wardens, Sunninghill parish councillors, ward councillors and members of the youth offending team for the start of the clean-up at 2pm.
Cllr Phill Bicknell, cabinet member with responsibility for community safety, said: "The parish council is joining the national celebrations for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and quite rightly wants the area to look its best as is befitting for such an auspicious occasion.
"The council has a zero tolerance approach to litter and anti-social behaviour. Days such as this are great - but the effort must be sustained throughout the year. Community wardens work with their local community all year round to instill pride in the area and I am pleased that once again they have taken the initiative and organised a clean-up. We hope that having a cleaner community will help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour."
Jane Shanahan, assistant clerk to Sunninghill and Ascot Parish Council, said: "This isn't the first time Victory Field has been a site for Royal celebrations. In 1952 it played host to a 'Coronation Fete' which was officially opened by Her Royal Highness Princess Marie Louise. A special book listing all the Beacon sites for The Queen's Diamond Jubilee will be given to The Queen after the event."
